Like a modern day Notting Hill, the love story was sparked by Matafeo's Jessie sleeping and falling in love with a movie star named Tom Kapoor (Nikesh Patel). Despite many ups and downs, and Tom's agent Cath (Minnie Driver) warning him against dating a 'civilian', the two stuck it out through to series two.

But the second series, which aired in 2022, explored what happens after such a fairy-tale ending, and the drama came to a head in the finale after Tom found out that Jessie had accepted a job from her librarian ex-boyfriend Ben (Edward Easton).

Steve and Sarah's pre-wedding celebrations brought Tom back into the picture, though, and the series ended with the pair once again professing their love for each other.

Matafeo co-wrote the coming series, set two years after the events of the last, with her best friend Alice Snedden and Nic Sampson. She recently revealed to The Guardian that it attempts to answer the question: "what's it like to have an ex?"

Jessie is still living in London and working at the local cinema, but she has returned to singledom after breaking up with Tom. As her friends move on to the next stages in their lives, she is left to navigate adulthood on her own, and to question what she is really looking for.

Most of the cast mentioned will be returning, while Doctor Who star John Simm will join in an undisclosed role.

Meanwhile Matafeo and Snedden will both also be making their directorial debuts.

The full third series of Starstruck will be available on BBC iPlayer from Monday 28 August 2023, before airing in weekly double bills on BBC One from 10.00pm on Friday 1 September.
