Kylie Minogue, Gareth Malone and Jarvis Cocker are among the famous faces taking part in this year’s BBC Music Day. There will be a host of music-themed programming and events building up to and including Friday 28 September.
Kylie, Gareth Malone, Gabrielle, YolanDa Brown and Blossoms are the BBC Music Day Ambassadors who will be taking part in events and broadcasts in celebration of the day.
Now in its fourth year, BBC Music Day is an annual celebration of the power of music to change lives.
As a special surprise for commuters, Kylie has recorded some music-related messages which will be played at major rail stations on 28 September.
“I truly believe in the power of music to bring joy and lift the soul,” Kylie commented. “Hopefully my little messages for train passengers will be a nice surprise and a reminder of the power of music as they go about their daily locomotion journeys.”
Gareth Malone, choirmaster extraordinaire, will host brand new show, All Star Music Quiz, for BBC Two.
There will also be a very special version of Bargain Hunt which sees Jarvis Cocker and Candida Doyle of Pulp take on Bez and Rowetta of Happy Mondays on BBC One.
The festivities will feature live music events and performances across the UK involving celebrated musicians, choirs and local community music groups with a focus on Women in Music.
Other events include a Pointless Celebrities BBC Music Day Special, an episode of Trust Me, I’m a Doctor looking at how music can benefit mental health and a 6 Music Freshers’ Week Tour which will visit art schools around the UK.
In 2017 BBC Music Day featured almost 1,000 live music events across the UK and reached an audience of 20 million. To find out more about the activities and broadcasts happening this year visit bbc.co.uk/musicday.
