The series is based on the true story of the British glamour model Chloe Ayling, who was abducted whilst working in Italy in 2017.
Kidnapped stories Ayling’s brutal capture in Milan, the chilling relationship formed with her kidnapper, and the court case which eventually put him behind bars.
However, this is not your typical kidnap story. The drama will go beyond the torturous incident itself, and look deeper into the critical line of questioning Ayling faced from the media when she returned to the UK. Why was she blamed for her kidnapper’s crimes?
The drama is written by Georgia Lester, who’s previous writing credits include Killing Eve, Youngers and Skins. Extensive research has gone into the script, with first hand interviews, legal documentation and Ayling’s book Kidnapped all informing this true-to-life series.
Ayling is glad to share her traumatic experience. She said: “I am excited that BBC Studios are telling my story and that the wider world will get to know the truth about what happened to me and learn of the many details that weren’t brought to light originally.”
The six-part series will be directed by Al Mackay (Without Sin) and produced by Clare Shepard (Viewpoint).
Lester, speaking to the BBC, said: “Every moment that I have spent researching this series and spending time with Chloe, learning about the ordeal she suffered both by the men who abducted her and the people who doubted her, has been shocking and infuriating.”
The series is set to begin filming later this year, with casting details expected be announced soon.
