Matthew Garrahan is head of digital at the Financial Times and also writes a column on media and technology. Before that he spent the last four years as news editor, overseeing the FT 's global news operation and leading coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic, Russia's war on Ukraine and the UK's political crisis.
He was previously global media editor, based in New York and then London, and Los Angeles correspondent. In more than 20 years at the FT his interviews have ranged from Rupert Murdoch and Hugo Chavez to Larry David and Angelina Jolie.
Matthew has twice won Business Journalist of the Year at the UK Press Awards for his reporting on the media industry and also won the Arts and Entertainment prize at the British Journalism Awards for his coverage of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. He won the breaking news prize at the US Society of Business Editors and Writers for his scoop on Apple’s $3bn purchase of Dr Dre’s Beats, and has also been recognised by the Los Angeles Press Club and the Newhouse School Mirror Awards.
