Chris Banatvala is an independent media consultant specialising in regulation and policy. Originally a Channel 4 News journalist, he was Ofcom’s founding Director of Standards and member of its Content Board. He was responsible for, among other things, the policy development and enforcement of standards in linear and non-linear content
Chris now advises broadcasters and tech companies, international regulators and governments on, such issues as, media regulation, editorial and advertising standards, media strategies and complaint handling. In the UK, he works with e.g. the BBC, Warner Bros. Discovery, Global Media & Entertainment. He also provides pre-and post-transmission / publication advice and has conducted a number of inquiries and reviews for national and international organisations.
Chris is currently a non-executive director on the Sky News Board and is Channel 4’s online independent complaints reviewer.
