Agnes Cogan

RTS Republic of Ireland Chair

A native of Dublin, Agnes began her career in broadcasting as a Production Assistant with RTÉ, the Irish National broadcaster. In that capacity she worked on the ground-breaking and innovative current affairs series of the time, Seven Days, and also worked on features and documentaries.

With a life-long interest in film, she next became a film editor, work she found stimulating and deeply satisfying. Following this the next logical step for many is to become a director, and so it proved for her. In that capacity sho worked in studio and on Outside Broadcasts on many and diverse programmes, particularly on live TV. After that came an appointment as producer/director, working in practically every area of TV – features, current affairs, documentaries, entertainment, comedy, sport, agriculture, religious broadcasting, Young People’s and Irish Language broadcasting. Highlights included award-winning documentaries on Irish music, comedy for young people, debates on major issues of the day – e.g. divorce, abortion -  classical music series for young people, and documentaries in Europe and Africa on social and domestic issues and on development aid.

As a Senior Producer, Agnes worked on daytime programmes, on a ground-breaking live TV series, Live at Three, and on the Irish language documentary series, Léargas.

As a free-lance broadcaster, she also devised and presented a number of series of classical music  programmes on Ireland’s classical music radio station, Lyric FM.
