David Thewlis (I’m Thinking of Ending Things) is set to star alongside Olivia Colman in the upcoming Sky Original drama Landscapers.
The series, written and created by debut screenwriter Ed Sinclair, will see Colman and Thewlis star as the seemingly harmless couple Susan and Christopher Edwards who happen to have a couple of dead bodies buried in their back garden in Nottingham.
Writer-Director Will Sharpe (Flowers) will direct the four-part drama, with Kate O’Flynn (Bridget Jones’s Baby), Dipo Ola (We Hunt Together), Samuel Anderson (The History Boys), Karl Johnson (Hot Fuzz), Felicity Montagu (I’m Alan Partridge) and Daniel Rigby (Eric and Ernie) also joining the cast.
Inspired by true events, the series will tell the uniquely bizarre love story of the Edwards, who have been escaping from reality into the fantasy world of Westerns and Hollywood classics for over fifteen years. When Christopher makes a disconcerting call home to his step-mother, facts begin to come to light about the couples’ role in an atrocious crime over ten years ago.
As they find themselves in the centre of an intense police investigation, the pair create a fantasy narrative of their own making. In order to escape the crippling guilt and horrors of reality, Susan’s extraordinary imagination creates an illusory world offering sanctuary for the devoted couple.
The darkly funny and thrilling series will interrogate the idea of multiple truths, asking how far people are prepared to go for the one they love.
Will Sharpe commented: “It's a huge privilege to be collaborating with Ed, SISTER, Sky, HBO and our extraordinary cast and crew on this exciting project. We cannot wait to unearth for you the bizarre shape-shifting truths that lie buried in the unsettling yet deeply romantic world of Landscapers.”
David Thewlis added: “This is without doubt the very finest project I have worked on for many years. Everything about Landscapers is magical, there is nothing like it and I’m impatient to get to work so that its brilliance can be shared with the rest of the world.”
Produced by SISTER (Chernobyl) and HBO, Landscapers has commenced filming in the UK.
