Black Narcissus
BBC One, 9pm
Based on the Rumer Godden classic novel, the three-part adaptation of Black Narcissus is set in the 1930s and tackles forbidden desire, sexual repression, religion and jealousy.
Gemma Arterton plays Sister Clodagh, an exacting and faithful young sister superior who has been given the responsibility to establish a mission in the Himalayas.
The place was originally a home for former concubines and Clodagh soon finds herself drawn to the arrogant land agent Mr Dean (Alessandro Nivola), but so is her fellow sister Ruth (Aisling Franciosi), which causes an already tense relationship to turn venomous.
Clodagh also starts to become haunted by an event from her past that pushed her to take her vows years ago.
The Last Woman on Earth With Sara Pascoe
BBC Two, 9pm
Comedian and writer Sara Pascoe is travelling around the world to discover and learn how to do the world’s most endangered jobs.
In Cuba, Pascoe meets a mattress magician, a cigar factory reader and the people who climb coconut trees to make a local sweet, but whose jobs are at risk due to the increased exposure to commercialism.
In Georgia, Pascoe learns about polyphonic singing and helps guide tourists around the Stalin Museum.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Christmas Special
ITV, 9:15pm
Famous faces will be taking part in a Christmas special of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in a bid to raise as much money as possible for their chosen charity.
Hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, the first set of the festive episodes will see Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan and Diversity star Jordan Banjo attempt to answer as many questions as possible to take them closer to the million-pound jackpot.
The second instalment of episodes will feature actress Kym Marsh, The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith and actress Ronni Ancona.
