This week get lost in a fantasy world filled with superheroes and learn how to revamp your home with the ultimate design tips from Dick and Angel Strawbridge.

Anthony

BBC One

Monday 27th July, 8:30pm

Anthony Walker was 18 years old and an aspiring lawyer when he was brutally murdered in July 2005 in a racially motivated attack, depriving him of his future and devastating the lives of those around him.

The murder had such an impact on the city, Walker’s funeral service was broadcast on a big screen in Liverpool city centre.

One-off BBC One drama Anthony shows the life that Walker could have led working backward to the night of his death.

Written by Jimmy McGovern, the film shows Walker, played by Toheeb Jimoh, marry the love of his life, start a legal career working in barrister chambers, help a friend out of homelessness and watch the birth of his first child.

His mother Gee approached McGovern to write the script and helped him build it through sharing memories of Walker and the type of person he was.

Rakie Ayola plays Gee Walker, Julia Brown plays the fictional character Katherine Walker Anthony’s wife, Bobby Schofield plays Mick Woodfield an old school friend and Shaniqua Okwok plays Anthony’s sister.

Starting a family is never a smooth journey and for Jake and Hannah Graf they had some unique challenges on their path to parenthood.

Both Jake and Hannah are transgender and director Gussy Sakula-Barry filmed the pair over a year as they explored what options they had for surrogacy, and what being a parent really means in modern Britain.

They used Jake’s embryos that he had frozen previously, but with their surrogate based in Belfast and with the country in lockdown, Jake and Hannah will need to race to make it in time for the due date.

Married in 2018, Jake is a filmmaker, actor and writer, best known for The Danish Girl and Colette, and Hannah was one of the highest-ranking transgender officers in the British Army and was awarded an MBE for the support and work she has done with LGBT army personnel.

Malcom Bright (Tom Payne) is a successful criminal psychologist, which is hard enough, but to make matters much more complex, his dad is a serial killer.

Bright has worked with the FBI and is now a serial killer profiler for the NYPD. He knows how the mind of a killer works, his own father, Dr Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen), was a respected and talented thoracic surgeon yet also lived a double life as a serial killer.

Whitly’s crimes were discovered and he was put in prison, triggering extreme nightmares, insomnia and psychological trauma for Bright, who was just a child when his father’s secret life was revealed.

Bright hasn’t visited his father in ten years, but a recent string of murders has forced Bright to ask Whitly what he may know, which could help him solve the crimes. Excited to reconnect with his son, Whitly believes he and Bright are the same, but Bright is determined to keep his distance.

Bright must also navigate the behaviour of his rich, scheming and alcoholic mother (Bellamy Young), ambitious TV reporter sister Ainsley Whitly (Halston Sage), mentor Gil Arroyo (Lou Diamond Phillips) and detectives Dani (Aurora Perrineua) and JT (Frank Harts).

Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend

Dick and Angel Strawbridge are known for their restorations of their 19th century French chateau, documented in Escape to the Chateau. Their new four-part series, Escape to the Chateau: Make Do and Mend, will see them share their tips with viewers with everything, from redesigning whole rooms, to restoring priceless items.

During lockdown, plenty of people have taken on their own restoration and decoration projects and Dick and Angel will be there to offer up their design and DIY tricks with viewers via video chat.

The first episode shows viewers how create a fun retro bathroom, revamp a drinks trolley and build a home smoker.

Due to lockdown restrictions, Dick and Angel filmed themselves and introduced a new addition to the family, their Kerry Blue terrier Petale.

Friday 31st July

The superhero series, based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, returns for a second series and sees the return of the Hargreeves siblings.

Vanya (Ellen Page), Luther (Tom Hopper), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Diego (David Castañeda), Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Ben (Ethan Hwang) all return and are dealing with the aftermath of being saved by Number 5 from the exploding moon.

Forced to readjust in a new time and location, the siblings need to figure out a way to prevent the apocalypse from happening and protect their sister Vanya, who caused the apocalypse in the first place.

After the time jump at the end of series one, the siblings all land in and around Dallas, Texas, but at different times over a three-year period from 1960 onwards. They must all find a way to reunite while also on the run from a trio of cutthroat Swedish assassins.
