Richard E. Grant on Ealing Comedies takes a look at the impact of the comedy brand, and visits historic landmarks linked to their films such as Leeds Castle in Kent and the backstreets of Battersea and Bermondsey, as well as the site of Ealing Studios.

Grant is joined on camera by fellow actors Mike Myers, Peter Capaldi, Michael Palin, and Stephen Fry in celebrating the once great name of Ealing Comedies.

"Between 1939 and 1955, comedy gold was mined at Ealing," said Grant. "Ealing for me was the studio that put Britain on the cinematic map and it’s been great to have the chance to watch all the films again and chat to both my friends and the people who share my love of Ealing Comedy.”

Produced by Phil McIntyre Television, the outfit behind Monty Python Live and Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, and working closely with archivists Studio Canal, the miniseries promises to show never-before-seen footage and stills of the Ealing Comedies productions.

Series director, Richard Dean, said, "I’ve always wanted to work with Richard E. Grant, and after filming with him over the past few months, it has to be said that he’s lived up to all of my expectations – he’s extremely funny, incredibly knowledgeable and completely unpredictable.

"I hope the Gold audience enjoys watching these three Ealing documentaries as much as we have enjoyed making them… to put it in Mr Grant’s words, ‘It’s been a blast.’"

In time with its transmission of Richard E. Grant on Ealing Comedies, UKTV Gold will air several classic films from the genre's heyday including Passport to Pimlico, Kind Hearts and Coronets, and The Lavender Hill Mob.

Richard E. Grant on Ealing Comedies is scheduled to air in September.
