Set in the glory days of 70s and 80s snooker, The Rack Pack follows household names Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins and Steve ‘The Nugget’ Davis at the peak of their popularity.

Higgins, played by Luke Treadaway (Fortitude), is a natural talent and showman who changed the game for snooker fans, captivating audiences across the country. His rival, ‘The Nugget’, played by Will Merrick (Skins, About Time), is a dominant force in the game who brought in an era of professionalism and was well-known as one of the greatest snooker players of all time.

Humorous and touching, the film centres around the 1985 snooker final which was broadcast on the BBC early one Monday morning. 18.5 million people tuned in to watch the final, a figure which remains the record for a post-midnight audience for any channel in the UK. This film marks 30 years of that final match.

The film takes an affectionate look back at the snooker scene of the time, celebrating the huge personalities and fondly remembering this nostalgic period for the distinctly British sport.

Written by the team behind hit Sky comedy A Young Doctor’s Notebook, and directed by Brian Welsh (Black Mirror), this film is the first comedy drama feature film to have been made for BBC iPlayer.
