Chair / Cadeirydd: Edward Russell

Edward’s career in television spans twenty years, joining BBC’s Fictionlab department as an online producer for Top of the Pops. 

He joined BBC Cymru Wales in 2006 as Brand Manager to the popular Doctor Who series, overseeing not only the marketing and publicity for the show, but also the commercial side of the business. 

Today, as well as lecturing in Television Marketing, he is a producer for Tiny Rebel Games where he is part of the team working alongside Aardman to create a new interactive adventure for Wallace & Gromit which will use new, ground-breaking technology.

Deputy Chair / Dirprwy Gadeirydd: Celi Fowler

​Celi has spent over 16 years working in film and television as a producer in both development and production.  Before moving into feature film, she began her career in factual television working on a wide range of high-rating productions for both the BBC and the Independent sector including: Coast; History Cold CaseSecret Britain; and The Summer Exhibition

Since transitioning into feature film, she has worked at a number of film companies including Wildgaze Films and, most recently, Number 9 Films – on Lone Scherfig’s Their Finest, and Juan Carlos Medina’s The Limehouse Golem

Celi currently works as a development executive in feature film development at Ffilm Cymru Wales whose recent slate included the 2018 award-winning BAFTA film for outstanding debut, I Am Not A Witch.

    Honorary Secretary / Ysgrifennydd Anrhydeddus: Matthew Harrisson

    Matt Harrisson is a freelance director and cameraman based in Cardiff. 

    Following seventeen years as a staff cameraman at BBC Cymru Wales, Matt went freelance in 2017.

    He has since combined directing roles for BBC Studios Entertainment and Music Wales with studio, Outside Broadcast and PSC camerawork for a variety of companies.

    Matt is co-founder of south Wales broadcasting network Push Auto.

    Administrator / Gweinyddwr: Hywel Wiliam

    Hywel WiliamAfter graduating in Law at Cardiff University, and obtaining a post graduate media diploma at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Hywel Wiliam joined BBC Wales in 1984 as an Assistant Film Editor. 

    In 1986 he moved to the facilities company Barcud in Caernarfon as a VT Editor, and later became a corporate affairs producer with the company, before founding Pow Wow in 1989, an independent television company specialising in television commercials. 

    In 1994, Hywel joined the Independent Television Commission, eventually becoming Manager, Wales and the West of England. 

    In 2003, the ITC was merged with four other regulators to become Ofcom, and in 2004 Hywel became its Head of Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Wales.  He left Ofcom in 2011 to work as an independent consultant with Advisors in Media (AIM) before joining S4C in 2012. 

    In 2014 Hywel left S4C and became a member of the Ofcom Advisory Committee for Wales. He later became Chair of the committee.

    This is his second period in office as a member of the RTS Wales Centre Committee - he first served in that capacity in the late 90s.

    Trysorydd / Treasurer: TBC

    Golygydd Digidol / Digital Editor: Owen Williams

    Owen Williams is Managing Director of Siml, a creative social media agency. 

    Owen has a formidable background in social media, having led Editorial Strategy at BBC Content Social, and previously as Head of Social at BBC One and BBC Wales.

    Prior to the advent of social media, Owen was a Children's BAFTA-nominated television producer at Fflic (now Boom Cymru), and Facilities Manager at Mwnci (now Gorilla Group).

    An experienced social media professional with 20 years' experience in digital innovation, content production, social media governance and post-production, Owen is a highly motivated creative leader and engaging public speaker, broadcaster and storyteller, with a strong track record of originating and managing digital projects on new and emerging platforms.

    Catrin Hughes Roberts

    Catrin Hughes Roberts is Director of Partnerships at S4C, and an experienced communicator with significant external affairs experience at devolved, Westminster and EU levels.

    Catrin leads on S4C’s public affairs work, and its partnerships, as well as S4C’s support for skills and training for the sector. She is S4C’s diversity champion and is a board member of the Creative Diversity Network of UK broadcasters.

    Before joining S4C, Catrin worked in the BBC’s corporate affairs team in London and also spent time with BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Worldwide. She has previously worked as a campaigner in the third sector, and in the European and UK Parliaments . Catrin is a fluent Welsh speaker with a smattering of other (possibly slightly rusty) languages too.

    Catrin represents S4C on the RTS Cymru Wales committee.

    Elin Llŷr

    Elin is the Public Affairs Manager at ITV Cymru Wales, and is an experienced communicator with significant public affairs experience.  Elin leads on ITV Cymru Wales's public affairs work and its partnerships. She is a member of ITV Cymru Wales' Diversity Panel, and is also the Co-Chair of Cwlwm Busnes Caerdydd, a Welsh language business networking group. 

    Before joining ITV Cymru Wales, Elin worked at Public Affairs agency Deryn Consulting, and specialised in the areas of events, communication and engagement. Prior to that, she worked for prominent Members of the Senedd, including Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas MS and Helen Mary Jones MS. Elin is a fluent Welsh speaker. 

    Elin represents ITV on the RTS Cymru Wales committee.

    Joe Towns

    Joe Towns is Programme Director of the widely acclaimed Sports Broadcast MSc course at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

    The master's degree course is designed to train new practitioners of sport broadcasting, developing industry-ready talent for sport broadcast journalism and the wider media world.

    After graduating from Loughborough University, Joe worked as a journalist with the South Wales Evening Post, where his first assignment was covering the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games in Australia. He then spent 15 years as a TV sport producer in the broadcast industry, where he worked at Sky Sports, BBC Sport, Eurosport, IMG and BTSport. His many highlights include producing live coverage of the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016, the Commonwealth Games, Wimbledon, Open Golf, Six Nations Rugby and the FA Cup. 

    Closer to home, Joe was series producer of Scrum V from 2010 to 2016, with responsibility for Scrum V LiveScrum V Sunday and Scrum V Six Nations Special. Joe also developed and produced the magazine show Sport Wales and the annual Welsh Sports Review for BBC Wales television. Outside of his university role he now works as a freelance sports producer for Whisper Films, Orchard Media and Sunset & Vine Cymru.

    Rhodri James

    Rhodri James is Director of Technology and Operations at Gorilla, the UK's largest post-production facility group outside London.

    Formerly chief engineer at Men from Mars - the Visual and Digital effects foundry - Rhodri is a skilled broadcast technical manager, guiding teams through the technology lifecycle. 

    Prior to his appointment at Gorilla in 2012, Rhodri was Technology Development & Portfolio Manager at BBC Cymru Wales, tasked with translating editorial and operational objectives into innovative new ways of working in a blossoming multiplatform environment.

    With over 20 years experience in the technology broadcast sector, and a track record of projects such as the building of facilities and outside broadcast vehicles, and delivering landmark projects such as BBC Cymru Wales Roath Lock studios, Rhodri is a technology evangelist with an innate ability to describe complex problems in a clear and compelling manner.

    Rahim Mastafa 

    Rahim has been editing for nearly two decades and learned everything he knows on the job, including camera work. Rahim had no prior training in editing, and all his previous jobs were manual, non-computer jobs and his education was in Berlin, where he lived as a child for eight years.

    Rahim started out editing corporate and music videos, learning the entire post production process, before going freelance in 2004.

    He soon found work at BBC Wales and ITV Wales. He has edited news, prime-time documentaries, day time, factual, consumer affairs, entertainment, as well as behind the scenes shows and content for some the BBC's biggest dramas such as Doctor Who, Sherlock, Luther, Gentleman Jack, Les Misérables and more.

    He is also the host of In The Edit Podcast - The Film & TV Making-Of Podcast.

     

    Rhodri Evans 

    Rhodri is a TV and Film lawyer with experience advising independent television production companies and their founders/managers on strategic and production specific matters.

    His wide-ranging media law practice has also seen him advise a global vocal recording artists on a commercial sponsorship opportunity, as well as providing backstage legal guidance and advice at televised concerts and music festivals. He has also written for Broadcast and Televisual magazines.

    Rhodri is a member of the Royal Television Society and Law Society of England and Wales.

     

    Sam Cook 

    Sam Cook is a Television Presenter and Journalist, best-known for his work on Local TV & Business News Wales. 

    During his career, Cook has interviewed phenomenal faces including Welsh legends - Michael Sheen, Rhod Gilbert and Ioan Gruffudd and also, rubbed shoulders with Time Lords: Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, Christopher Eccleston and Jodie Whittaker. 

    Mentored by Welsh comedian and Presenter Daniel Glyn, Cook is renowned for his interviews on the streets of Cardiff (Local TV). He has also worked with BBC Sesh, ITV Studios and It’s My Shout – a platform designed to help younger people get into the creative industry.

    Alongside his presenting work, Cook has also acted in television shows, ‘Murder by the Sea’ (CBS Reality), ‘Dark Land’ (BBC Cymru Wales) and also, the Iris Prize BAFTA-nominated short film, ‘Involuntary Activist’.
