With legislation in place to guard against discrimination, has the media landscape changed for the better?
In an inclusive society, the broadcast industry should reflect age, gender and disability appropriately and this should be evident in the media we consume. With people being expected to work longer comes the expectation that there are also employment opportunities available, both on screen and off, for people with ‘shedloads of experience’. So: Is today’s television being made by today’s society and do the images of older people on screen positively reflect society in terms of both age and gender?
