You may not remember what day it is, or even when you last showered, but we’re here to guide you through the all-important TV viewing schedule for the confusing and blissful time between Christmas and New Year.
Beyond Paradise
Friday
BBC One, 9pm
Detectives turn ghostbusters in this festive special of Beyond Paradise, as Humphrey (Kris Marshall) and Esther (Zahra Ahmadi) are called to investigate a haunting.
When grieving widow Bob (Mark Heap) believes he has been visited by his late wife with a haunting demand, the team are divided on the supernatural occurrence. While Esther remains deeply sceptical, Humphrey is delighted to tackle Shipton Abbott's first ever haunting case.
When there’s a second, more unsettling visit from ‘Linda’, could the truth behind the paranormal activity be far more rational, and sinister, than it seems?
Taskmaster’s New Year Treat
Sunday
Channel 4, 9pm
Actor Sue Johnston, mathematician and presenter Professor Hannah Fry, ex-goalkeeper David James, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis and All Saints singer Melanie Blatt will battle it out in a series of surreal tasks for this New Year Treat.
Greg Davies will take to his throne to crown the winner with his ‘golden eyebrows’, with Little Alex Horne on hand to help guide the festive proceedings.
The Split: Barcelona
Sunday and Monday
BBC One, 9pm
After a two year wait, Abi Morgan’s family lawyer drama finally returns for a two-part special.
As Hannah (Nicola Walker) and Nathan (Stephen Mangan) settle into their divorce, a new marriage is on the cards for their daughter Liv (Elizabeth Roberts) and boyfriend Gael (Alex Guersman) in sunny Spain.
As the Defoes descend on Barcelona, they can’t leave the drama behind as the wedding becomes a comedy of errors, from a chaotic hen do to a surprise pregnancy.
Luckily, the Defoes are on hand to sort out the messiness of Liv and Gael’s special day, proving a divorce lawyer’s luggage list should always include an emergency prenup.
Cunk on Life
Monday
BBC Two, 9pm
Documentary maker Philomena Cunk is back to educate us on the big topics, and what better subject to tackle than the meaning of life?
Cunk’s investigated the history of Britain, Shakespeare, and even Christmas, so it was only right that her next journey of discovery was humanity’s greatest mystery.
Physicists Brian Cox and Jim Al-Khalili will be on hand to help Cunk on her quest, attempting to answer her questions on ghosts, AI and, of course, “the big bag”.
