UKTV has commissioned Bergerac, a six-part reimagining of the legendary 1980s detective show of the same name, following the investigations of Jersey detective Jim Bergerac.
This time round, the top cop faces a high-stakes investigation that threatens to shake him to his core. With his family and career on the line, can he confront his demons in time?
Where the original show, which ran on BBC1 from 1981-91, used a ‘case of the week’ format, the new series will follow just one murder mystery across its six episodes.
Filming is to begin this summer on the show, a BlackLight TV production, itself part of Banijay. It is written by Toby Whithouse (Being Human), with Brian Fillis, Catherine Tregenna and Polly Buckle.
“It’s a rare honour to bring back a show as beloved and iconic as Bergerac. Our mission was always to respect the show’s history and legacy, while making it impactful and relevant for a modern-day audience,” said Whithouse. “We'll be bringing back other beloved supporting characters, as well as introducing new friends and foes. Just like his predecessor, our Bergerac is complex, driven, brilliant and flawed.”
Bergerac will be available on streaming platform UKTV Play and air on terrestrial channel Drama in 2025.
