Ahead of production for series three of The White Lotus, the first casting news has rolled in.
Leslie Bibb (Jupiter's Legacy), Dom Hetrakul (Bangkok Dangerous), Jason Isaacs (Lucis Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise), Michelle Monaghan (True Detective), Parker Posey (Lost in Space) and newcomer Tayme Thapthimthong will be joining the returning Natasha Rothwell for the Thailand-based instalment.
Filming will take place in and around Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok, where the drama will follow a new group of guests at another luxurious White Lotus resort.
Back in series one, Rothwell starred as Belinda, the manager of the Hawaii White Lotus' healing spa, where she quickly won over Jennifer Coolidge's highly-strung guest, Tanya, with her relaxing massages. Tanya raised Belinda's hopes by promising to fund her own business, before dashing them in the finale.
However, Belinda's coincidental return after Tanya's untimely demise at the end of series two has led some to believe that some money may have been leftover in a will.
Beyond speculation, story details are scarce. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator Mike White teased "a supersized White Lotus."
“It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier,” he continued. “I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing…"
The first and second seasons saw six and seven episodes respectively, so the third should see at least eight. As for its themes, White has hinted at a spiritual turn after the money and sex-centred chapters.
He expanded in an interview with Vanity Fair: "Eastern versus Western religion, or Western people in an Eastern culture. Maybe after sex it would be nice to have something that’s a little more celestial or something that’s a little more out of the carnal, I guess. But I don’t know."
Series three is due to begin filming in February 2024. There is no official news on the release date, but The White Lotus will air on Sky TV and NOW in the UK.
