The BBC has released its first trailer for two-part Agatha Christie drama Murder is Easy.
Both hour-long episodes form an adaptation of the detective novelist’s 1960s book of the same name. Miss Pinkerton, played by Penelope Wilton (Doctor Who), is found dead on her way to report a murder to Scotland Yard. Luke Fitzwilliam, played by David Jonsson (Rye Lane), decides to head to Wychwood under Ashe, where Pinkerton claimed the killer was at work.
Once there, Fitzwilliam needs to keep his wits about him in dealing with the denizens of parochial English idyll, which may not be as peaceful as it seems. As might be expected for a Christie adaptation, Fitzwilliam’s detective work sees him up against an assembled horde of doctors, majors, lords and reverends.
“Are you one of those men who never know when to leave well enough alone?” one asks Fitzwilliam.
The extended cast includes Mathew Baynton (Horrible Histories), Douglas Henshall (Primeval), Nimra Bucha (Polite Society), Mark Bonnar (Catastrophe) and Morfydd Clark (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power).
The first episode of Murder is Easy will air on BBC One and be available on iPlayer on Wednesday 27 December, with episode two coming the following day.
