With its massive following and international appeal, esports is generating serious interest among corporate sponsors and is taking the entertainment world by storm. Esports thirst for high-speed dynamic graphics and global internet streaming is driving technology to its limits and even giving broadcast television a run for its money.
The Thames Valley Creative Technology Centre is hosting a series of webinar presentations from esports specialists to show how their technology and systems operate. Explaining their workflows and production requirements, they will discuss how broadcast vendors and service providers can help them deliver even better programs.
Held over three one-hour sessions, this esports colloquium will give you the opportunity to learn from the industry experts already delivering esports events to millions of viewers worldwide.
Monday 13th July, 5pm (UK) – Steven "Claw" Jalicy from ESL Gaming will tell us how esports works, what the viewers expect, what the players demand, and how broadcast vendors and service providers can contribute to esports production and delivery
Steven "Claw" Jalicy is the Global Head of Streaming for ESL, the world's largest esports company. With over 10 years of experience in broadcast and live sports in over 15 different countries, and with hundreds of events in a senior technical leadership role, Claw has become a recognised expert in live streaming for esports and live events.
Currently based out of ESL’s global headquarters in Europe and living in Amsterdam, Claw is responsible for all aspects of ESL’s technical distribution worldwide. With more than 18 major events and countless other live broadcasts throughout the year, ESL brings the highest level of esports to millions of viewers all around the world, via traditional linear and online distribution platforms.
Since joining ESL in 2016, Claw has transformed live distribution workflows, and developed new systems and technology. Tuesday 14th July, 5pm (UK) – Paul Martin from Vecima will give an in-depth presentation on how internet delivery works using advanced CDN delivery systems and concepts. CDN is more than just high-speed internet between ISPs and Paul will discuss how esports companies can deliver international programs over the internet to millions of viewers
Paul Martin is VP, Broadcaster Market at Vecima, an industry leader in CDN solutions for Broadcast, Telco and Cable businesses (www.vecima.com). Paul’s career has spanned multiple Technology industries: Semiconductors and Broadband in the 2000s, followed by Broadcast Playout and OTT in the 2010s. As the 2020s prepares for huge growth in the volume of content delivered over broadband by Direct to Consumer (D2C) OTT services, Paul is focused on supporting Broadcasters to profitably make the transition to “OTT at scale”.
Wednesday 15th July, 5pm (UK) – Guillaume Neveux from EVS discusses how EVS are working in the esports arena, he discusses the workflows and how traditional broadcasting working practices can be adapted to work in esports
Guilliaume Neveux is in charge of Business Development at EVS since April 2016. He has been with the company for four years and has more than 12 years of experience in the broadcast industry, where he began his career selling IT storage and MXF solutions for OpenCube. Guillaume has also gained a deep understanding of Digital Media Archive when working for Front Porch Digital for four years. In his current role, Guillaume focuses on developing business opportunities in new sport market segments, such as VAR, in-stadium fan engagement and esports.

Anna Lockwood is an experienced media industry executive and is currently the Head of Global Sales at Telstra Broadcast Services, based in London. She leads a team that works at the convergence of the traditional broadcast industry with leading-edge telecommunications and digital platforms and focuses on bringing innovative solutions and services to the media and sports business. Gaming and esports are a fast-growing part of Telstra Broadcast Services’ business, and Telstra provides its global network and media capabilities to support requirements for esports connectivity, broadcasting and live streaming.
In addition to her role at Telstra, Anna is a board member of the EGAA (Esports Games Association Australia), an advisory board member and mentor at RISE – a group for women in broadcast, and is active in industry initiatives around sports, innovation and women in technology.
