The impact of US high end television investment on the UK production sector is debated by 4 senior industry figures.  They explore the current significant investment in physical studios, the implications for the funding models of UK indies, the future shape of UK TV output and what steps the industry needs to take in order to remain competitive and attractive to inward investors.

In 2019 film and high-end television production spend in the UK was over £2 billion, with £1.6 billion coming from inward investment.  High-end television spend has increased by 93% over the past five years and is forecast to be in excess of £4 billion by 2025.  However as viewing habits change, the PSB spend on originated content is diminishing: according to Ofcom, PSB investment has fallen by nearly 30% over the last 15 years. Will these new dynamics disrupt the unique production ecology that has evolved in the UK in recent years?
