Come and join Peter Dale, the multi award-winning former Head of Documentaries at Channel 4, and current Head of Documentaries at the National Film and Television School as he chairs a lively debate on what it takes to be a great observational documentary film maker.
He’ll be joined by some of the top filmmakers in the country including Peter Beard of Story Films whose 2015 film My Son The Jihadi won a Bafta for best Documentary and whose other work includes landmark series 24 Hours in A&E, 24 Hours in Police Custody, and Kids on The Edge and Havana Marking, Sundance winning director of Smash and Grab and Afghan Star and Executive Producer of Oscar Nominated Hell and Back. She’ll be talking about her experience of the world of the feature documentary and independent film making . We’ll also hear from young director Lizzie Kempton who directed Manchester Bomb: The Girls’ Story whilst on the BBC Young Directors Scheme last year and has also produced How To Die: Simon’s Choice, Chris Packham – Living with Asperger’s and Inside Harley Street. Lizzie will give us her valuable insight into what it is like to navigate your way through the genre today
