Joan Bakewell will deliver this year's RTS/Media Society Steve Hewlett Memorial Lecture on Thursday 3 October.

More details to follow in due course.

Proceeds of the lecture will go to the Steve Hewlett Scholarship Fund. The fund supports a scholarship initiative run by the RTS and The Media Society which will be presented each year to one/two exceptional applicants from the TV Production Bursary submissions. The recipient(s) will be awarded the ‘Steve Hewlett Scholarship’, which entitles them to all the perks of the TV Production Bursary, but with a financial contribution of £2000 per academic year and additional support, mentoring and opportunities from the Steve Hewlett Memorial Fund.

RECIPIENTS OF THE STEVE HEWLETT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

2023 - Amelia Nicola

Amelia is in her first year – studying BA hons in Media and Television Production at Chester University.

2022 - Liubov Slyusareva

Liubov recently graduated from University of the Arts, London with a distinction in her Cinematography MA. She is now busy developing and writing her next project.

2022 - Catriona Walsh

Catriona is in her final year at Queens University, Belfast  studying for a BA in Broadcast Production. She is a regular contributor to BBC Radio Foyle, and works as a social media presenter. She also hosts her own podcast and is now looking for an opportunity for when she finishes her degree this summer.

2021 - Lola Panic

Lola graduated from Goldsmiths University in 2023 with a BA in Media and Communication studies. She now works full time for a film company in London.

2020 - Khadija Akhi Uddin

Graduated from Cardiff University in 2022 with a first class honours in Journalism, Communication and Politics. She has recently finished an MSC in International Management.

2019 - Oisin Tomas Ó Raghallaigh

Continuing his studies in PPE at The Queen’s University, Belfast

2018 - Georgia Keetch

Graduated with a BA Hons in Journalism at University of Sussex in 2021 and an MA in Media and Cultural studies in 2022.  She was Editor of the student newspaper The Badger and has worked in the Communications department at Brighton City Council

2018 - Liam Warden

Graduated with a BA Hons from Sheffield University in 2021. Shortly after leaving university he was offered a job at the Sky Sports Content Academy. In his first year he worked on 4 x Formula One Grand Prix, created VT’s for the Sky football team and live tweeted stories for the Sky Sports newsroom. Liam has now graduated from the Academy and is working as a permanent AP at Sky Sports. He was recently  awarded the 2023 Sky Football Rising Star award.

2017 - Oliver Cummins Hylton

Graduated from Salford University in 2020 with a BA Hons in Broadcast Journalism. and an MA in documentary film making.

Oli now has a successful career as a Shooting Researcher/AP in the TV industry. He has worked on C4’s Murder in the Alps, Supervets, Find It, Fix It, Flog It and BBC 3’s innovative docu series Freeze.
