This week, Jane Austen’s sister has some reflecting to do, Margaret Thatcher dukes it out with a journalist and Peter Parker is back in school.

Brian and Maggie

Wednesday

Channel 4. 9.00pm

It’s hard to imagine a Prime Minister who divided opinion more than Thatcher. Despite – or perhaps because of – her penchant for controversy, reporters often had a hard time breaking the Iron Lady’s resolve. A notable exception is Brian Walden, whose 1989 TV interview with Thatcher was said to be so heated that the two never spoke again.

Now, Steve Coogan (The Reckoning) plays Walden and Harriet Walter (Succession) Thatcher, in a two-part look at the clash that helped put an end to her career.

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man

Wednesday

Disney+

You know the deal. Teen gets bitten, teen gets powers, teen makes quips.

In this animated retelling of the superhero’s origin story, Peter Parker (Hudson Thames, Mad Men) is taken under the wing of Norman Osborn (voiced by Colman Domingo, Sing Sing), rather than Tony Stark. Marvel fans will be all too aware that Osborn is the alter ego of the villainous Green Goblin, so what happens next to Peter is anyone’s guess.

Mo

Thursday

Netflix

The comedy-drama returns for a second series.

Series one followed Mo Najjar (Mo Amer) as he tried to adjust to Texas as a Palestinian refugee. In series two, however, he finds himself on the other side of the border. He’ll need to use every ounce of charm and persuasion to get back to Houston before the asylum hearing that could change his family’s life. In America, though, it seems people are doing fine without him. His quest to find his place in the world just got harder.

Death in Paradise

Friday

BBC One, 9.00pm

With the whodunnit show returning for its 14th series, you've got to feel sorry for the inhabitants of Saint Marie. As beautiful as it is, there's a worryingly high chance of ending up on the wrong side of a chalk outline.

At least Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet, 55 Degrees North) is on hand to establish the means, motive and opportunity. Fresh off his debut in the Christmas special, he's ready to put things in their (very scenic) place.

Miss Austen

Sunday

BBC One, 9.05pm

For one of England's most famous authors, relatively little is known about Jane Austen. This is largely down to her sister Cassandra's decision to burn a large volume of the Pride and Prejudice author's personal correspondence.

Now, Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty) stars as Cassandra in a drama that looks at her foray into arson. We meet young Jane (Patsy Ferran, Living) and Cassy (Synnøve Karlsen, Last Night in Soho) in flashbacks, and find two young women willing to do anything to protect each other.
