Extraordinary series two sees Jen continue her search for a superpower, Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine star in a salacious historical drama, and Celebrity Big Brother is back!
Mary & George
Monday
Sky Atlantic, 9.00pm
A historical drama starring Julianne Moore (May December) and Nicholas Galitzine (Bottoms) exposes the love affair between King James I of England (Tony Curran, Mayflies) and his ‘favourite’ George Villiers.
The mastermind behind Villiers’ affair is his mother, Mary (Moore), who uses her son’s high cheekbones and intelligence to climb the social hierarchy like a game of chess – all the way to the king. Soon Mary and George are the Countess and First Duke of Buckingham, one of the most powerful families in Britain.
Celebrity Big Brother
Monday
ITV1, 9.00pm
Big Brother is always watching, but this time who he’ll be watching remains tightly under wraps. Rumours range from an X-Factor reunion with Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, to singing-hot sauce sensation Levi Roots, to Love Island icon Ekin-Su, but the true line-up will only be revealed on the live launch show.
Big Brother fans are in for a big change this time, as they will now be ‘voting to save’ as opposed to ‘voting to evict.’ This change to the voting rules might just mean that strong characters stay in for longer, whilst those who stay out of the drama may fall behind.
Celebrity Big Brother will be hosted by Will Best, and our very own RTS Bursary Scheme Ambassador, AJ Odudu.
The Marlow Murder Club
Wednesday
Drama/ UKTV Play, 8.00pm
Poirot, Sherlock, Columbo, and now Judith Potts (Samantha Bond, Outnumbered) - a retired archaeologist in her 70s, who takes things into her own hands when witnessing the death of a neighbour.
As the mystery surrounding the murder doesn’t appear to be getting solved, Judith finds help in the unlikely place of the Vicar’s wife Becks (Cara Horgan, The Sandman) and empty-nester Suzie (Jo Martin, Doctor Who). Together they form The Marlow Murder Club. As Marlow’s murders become more frequent, their missions get more dangerous, but their friendships get stronger.
Extraordinary
Wednesday
Disney+
25-year-old Jen (Máiréad Tyers) doesn’t have a superpower. This normally wouldn’t be such a huge deal, but Extraordinary is set in a universe where everyone else received one at 18. In addition to that massive disappointment, Jen discovered that her adopted cat, Jizzlord (Luke Rollason), was a stuck shapeshifter.
In series two Jizzlord and Jen’s relationship has transitioned from owner-pet to girlfriend-boyfriend, and he is meeting her parents. Jen has entered power therapy with her coach George (Julian Barratt, The Mighty Boosh), and everything is looking good. That is, until Jizzlord’s pre-cat past catches up with him.
The Gentlemen
Thursday
Netflix
Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentleman gets a spin-off. Although the film’s stars Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell and Michelle Doherty are absent from the series, the Netflix show remains true to its source material in general vibe, and shedloads of violence.
Theo James (The White Lotus) plays Eddie Halstead, a man who has just inherited his family’s luxury estate – only to discover they are only asset rich and cash poor. To top it all off, his father had been borrowing money from bad guys to make ends meet, so Susie (Kaya Scodelario, Skins) has been using his new inheritance to grow her illegal cannabis empire, on behalf of her father Bobby (Ray Winstone, Sexy Beast).
