The Bear Series Two (Credit: FX Networks)

Comedies The Bear and Dave are back for their highly anticipated new series, while Chris Packham and Rosie Jones tackle pertinent issues in documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4.

Earth

Monday

BBC Two, 9.00pm

Chris Packham combines his background as a naturalist with the latest scientific discoveries to take us back 250 million years to Earth’s last climate change event, which wiped out 90% of species in the worst mass extinction the planet has ever seen.

This biography of Earth will draw parallels between then and now: the gases released by the super volcanos then, and the human-made gases released today. Packham hopes his docuseries will bring as much hope as fear and will motivate the British public to make small changes in their day to day lives.

The Sixth Commandment

Monday

BBC One, 9.00pm

Timothy Spall (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax) star in a new true crime series as Peter Farquhar and Ann Moore-Martin, the real-life neighbours who were seduced by student Ben Field (Eanna Hardwicke).

The drama will unpack how Field gaslit and psychologically tortured the elderly pair one at a time, finishing with Farquhar then moving just three doors down to Moore-Martin, which sparked the concern of their families and the authorities.

The Bear: Series Two

Wednesday

Disney +

Series one saw Chef Carmy (Jeremy Allen-White) quit his job in the world of fine dining to work at ‘The Original Beef of Chicagoland’, a restaurant that used to be owned by his brother, before his suicide. The Beef and its staff were a far cry from what Carmy was used to, and he soon learnt how the restaurant had been mismanaged when they were awarded a ‘C’ rating by a health inspector.

Series two will see the closure of The Beef and the opening of ‘The Bear’, a complete facelift of the original restaurant with a whole new ‘thoughtful chaos menu’ designed with the help of sous-chef Sydney (Ayo Edebiri).

Dave: Series Three

Wednesday

Disney +

A fictionalised account of the life of Lil Dicky, aka Dave Burd, a comedic rapper who has worked with the likes of Snoop Dog, Chris Brown, and Ed Sheeran. Dave Burd leads the comedy playing himself, alongside his real-life hype man GaTa.

Lil Dicky believes he is destined to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. To date, the series has followed his rise to fame, including the creation of his name Lil Dicky, which transpired to be an apt moniker. Now, in series three, Dave is on his first tour and makes an appearance at the coveted Met Gala.

This series will be released alongside Lil Dicky’s first album in eight years, also the series' soundtrack.

Rosie Jones: Am I a R*tard

Thursday

Channel 4, 10.00pm

Rosie Jones (Credit: Channel 4)

Comedian Rosie Jones, known for her appearances on panel shows such as The Last Leg and 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown, has struggled with online abuse since she began her career due to her disability. Jones has ataxic cerebral palsy, which affects her movement and gives her a slower speech pattern, and which she often incorporates into her comedic timing.

As Jones and many others experience disability trolling on a daily basis, this documentary will investigate the use of social media apps when it comes to ableism, with Jones confronting one of her trolls face to face.
