ITV has commissioned a new four-part thriller starring Vicky McClure (Line of Duty) called Without Sin.
Written by newcomer Frances Poletti, the series will see McClure play Stella Tomlinson, a woman who finds her 14-year-old daughter dead at their family home, with the hooded figure of Charles Stone (Johnny Harris, The Salisbury Poisonings) standing over her, covered in blood.
Set in Nottingham, the hometown of McClure and Poletti, Without Sin follows Stella grappling with grief three years after the death of her daughter. Still struggling to come to terms with her loss daily, Stella’s paralysing bereavement has created deep divisions in her life.
Wracked with remorse and grief and now estranged from her husband Paul, who still lives in the family home, Stella chooses a solitary, nocturnal life as an Uber driver.
After being contacted by Restorative Justice, Stella and Paul reunite to listen to a taped recording sent from Charles in prison, who they believe wants to atone for his sins and apologise for murdering their daughter.
Stella agrees to take things one step further and visit the prison alongside a Restorative Justice Mediator, coming face to face with her daughter’s killer. But nothing could prepare her for what Charles reveals in person.
ITV’s head of drama Polly Hill commented: “Without Sin is a brilliantly compelling story while carefully dealing with a mother’s grief at the loss of her daughter. It’s hard to believe this is Frances’ first drama series commission. Vicky and Johnny as Stella and Charles will be addictive viewing. I’m delighted to be working with BYO Films and Left Bank Pictures to bring this to ITV next year.”
Without Sin will be filmed in Nottingham and Shrewsbury during the autumn of 2021.
