Sherlock's Andrew Scott takes on monsters for CBeebies

Happy Valley star Sarah Lancashire is to voice the Headmonstress in a new CBeebies series

The animated pre-school series, School of Roars, is about five young monsters as they experience school for the first time.

The five monster-lings tackle each school day with the help of their lovable teacher Miss Grizzlesniff, voiced by Kathy Burke, who guides them through monstery classes in maths, music, cookery and life.

Sarah Lancashire appears as the Headmonstress, Mrs Twirlyhorn, and Sherlock villain Andrew Scott, plays the narrator – as well as a number of other characters including Mr Marrow the cookery teacher.

Both Scott and Lancashire spoke of their excitement to be involved in the show, with Scott adding “I think the little people in my life are gonna love it. I’m very prrrroud to be involved.”

Kathy Burke added, “My character Miss Grizzlesniff is a monster-mazing teacher and very beautiful. She loves her class because every little monster is unique.”

The show comes from production company Dot To Dot, and will be supported with strong interactive elements including apps for gaming and for stories, and a dedicated website. 

The series begins on 6 February on CBeebies.
