The Premier League is to enhance the protection of its live sport coverage.

They have partnered up with security service Friend MTS to identify those who exploit the security of their video content.

Kevin Plumb, Head of Legal Services for The Premier League, said to Broadband TV News that: “Protecting the distribution of our live games across all video platforms is paramount to us and our broadcast partners."

The new alliance further means that the security company will monitor and protect any illegitimate use of the sport provider's over-the-top content (OTT). This refers to any exploited audio, video and television streams over the internet.

The security company has previously helped Sky Sports with the protection of their video content.

Despite Sky Sports using their own Premier League feed, a number of international broadcasters have been taking the Premier League's universal feed.

Friend MTS’ CEO Jonathan Friend said to Broadband TV News that: "By making it harder for licensed services to become sources for piracy, [...] this degrades the quality of illegitimate services and reduces the economic threat to rights holders.”
