Building on the success of 2015’s RTS-nominated Cyberbully, Channel 4 Documentaries have announced a new drama

Starring BAFTA- and RTS-nominated Hollywood actor Stephen Graham (Pirates of the Caribbean, This is England) and written by multi award-winning director Dave Nath, The Watchman (w/t) is a thought-provoking thriller set on one night, in one place and as seen through the eyes of one man.

Writer Nath won acclaim for his challenging documentaries such as Bedlam and The Murder Detectives however this drama is his first foray into fiction.

Stephen Graham plays father-of-two Carl – a CCTV operator who becomes intoxicated at the power of being the ‘all-seeing eye’. When local police refuse to do anything about a group of local drug dealers, Carl decides to take matters into his own hands, and interfere in the world he is supposed to be watching.

Dave Nath described the show as “a film about a good man who makes one terrible mistake”, adding “it also asks whether CCTV can distort our view of the world and our place within it.”

This new drama builds on the recent success Channel 4 Documentaries have had in fiction, including the popular drama Cyberbully starring Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, and The People Next Door.

Channel 4’s Head of Documentaries Nick Mirsky said “Channel 4 Documentaries is keen to give our very best factual talents opportunities to explore the modern world in drama.”
