Sky original drama M. Son Of The Century will star Luca Marinelli as Benito Mussolini and be directed by Joe Wright.

The eight-part series will chronicle the rise of Mussolini from his humble beginnings to the founder of the National Fascist Party.

Based on the book by Antonio Scurati, the series will explore the birth of fascism in Italy, which toppled the government and began an era of brutality and violence.

The series will include the creation of The Fasci Italiani in 1919 and Mussolini’s famous parliamentary speech in 1925 following the murder of socialist MP Giacomo Matteotti.

Mussolini’s personal relationships with his wife Rachele, his lover Margherita Sarfatti and other key figures from the time will also be explored.

Written by Stefano Bises, the series will ensure the events are told with historical accuracy and show viewers how Italy surrendered to dictatorship under a man who was able to continuously rise from the ashes.

The series is produced by Sky studios and Lorenzo Mieli and filming will begin at Cinecittà Studios in the next few weeks.

M. Son Of The Century will air on Sky Atlantic and be available to stream on NOW.
