Gary Lineker's fledgling production company, Goalhanger Films, has been commissioned to air its exclusive footage of Anthony Joshua in the run-up to the boxer's fight against world champion Charles Martin next week.
Goalhanger was set up two years by Lineker, alongside former ITV Sport controller Tony Pastor, on the ex-England footballer's decision to get more experience behind the camera and executive produce his own projects. The indie released in-depth sporting docs centered around two of England's current sporting heroes late last year. Being Kevin Pieterson aired on ITV4 in November, praised for shedding new light on the cricketing legend, and BBC's Rooney: The Man Behind The Goals covered footballer Wayne Rooney's home life.
The production company's latest venture features intimate interviews with Joshua and his entourage, and documents the last year of the fighter's training.
"We started filming with Anthony without a commission because we totally believe in his potential," explained Pastor. "It's been fascinating filming with him, you get a real sense of being around a man who will go on to become a worldwide sporting superstar."
The series will air in the week leading up to the fight, happening on 9th April, on BBC's internet channel over four eight-minute episodes.
