The first look trailer for new drama House of the Dragon has been released.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood series, House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and focuses on the fearsome House of Targaryen.

The teaser trailer hints at plenty of action, scheming, destruction and, of course, dragons.

House of the Dragon will see the Targaryens fight over the line of succession, leading to a series of civil wars known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The trailer shows Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the king’s first-born child, born with pure Valyrian blood and a dragon rider. With so much privilege Rhaenyra wants for nothing, the only obstacle being she was not born a man in a patriarchal society.

Paddy Considine plays King Viserys Targaryen, chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King. A kindhearted and good man, Viserys wants to carry on his grandfather’s legacy, but good men don’t always make great kings.

Matt Smith plays Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of King Viserys and heir to the throne. An unrivalled warrior and dragon rider, Daemon has the true blood of the dragon, but that doesn’t always guarantee good fortune.

Steve Toussaint plays Lord Corlys Velaryon also known as The Sea Snake; he is Lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen. He is one of the most iconic nautical adventurers in the history of Westeros and claims the largest navy in the world, making him even richer than the Lannisters.

Olivia Cooke plays Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower who is the Hand of the King. Alicent is one of the most beautiful women in the Seven Kingdoms and was raised in the Red Keep close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both courtly grace and political acumen.

Rhys Ifans plays Otto Hightower, as The Hand of the King, he is a loyal servant to the king and his realm. In his eyes the great threat to the realm is the king’s brother Daemon who is the heir to the throne.

The ten-part series, House of the Dragon, will air in 2022.
