Filming has commenced on new ITV drama Because the Night, by Luther creator Neil Cross.
The four-part limited series is led by Russell Tovey (Years and Years) who plays Nathan, a well-meaning but directionless man struggling to escape his past.
Nathan’s devoted married life becomes deeply unsettled when he receives shocking news from Bob, an unwelcome figure from his past, played by Bertie Carvel (Doctor Foster).
This news causes a terrible, buried secret to resurface, triggering a series of disastrous events as Nathan struggles for redemption.
Speaking on his new role, Tovey commented: "Because the Night is going to challenge me as an actor more than I’ve ever been challenged before.
“As a web of lies, that he thought was dead and buried, comes back to haunt Nathan, he sinks deeper and deeper into the horror of the event that happened ten years ago.”
Alongside Tovey and Carvel will be Amrita Acharia (Game of Thrones) as Holly, Paul Bazely (Benidorm) as Graham and Nina Toussaint White (GameFace) as Jackie.
Creator Neil Cross said: "Nathan, Bob and Holly have been with me for many years. I couldn’t be more excited to see them brought to life by Russell Tovey, Bertie Carvel and Amrita Acharia".
Because the Night is a Euston Films production, a part of Fremantle.
The series, which has already started filming in London, will be shown on ITV later next year.
