Filming has begun on Film 4’s psychological horror film Saint Maud, the feature debut of writer and director Rose Glass.

Glass’ short film Bath Time was previously commissioned by Film4 as part of its ‘Moments of Horror’ season in 2015. Glass was also named Screen International Star of Tomorrow earlier this year.

Saint Maud stars Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty, Pride and Prejudice) as Amanda, the glamourous patient of Maud (Morfydd Clark), a young reclusive Catholic nurse.

The film follows the two women as Maud, who believes she is in direct communication with God, becomes dangerously obsessed with saving Amanda’s soul.

“We’re thrilled to be part of Rose’s feature debut. We worked with Rose on her Channel 4 horror short and quickly wanted to take her to feature”, commented Film 4 commissioner Sam Lavendar.

“Her vision for the film is what has brought us all along for the ride and has put chills up our spines from the start. We can’t wait to see her and her terrific cast bring this story to life.”

Rose Glass added that “[they] have the most phenomenal cast, led by Morfydd and Jennifer. I am so excited to be setting out on this production with such fantastic collaborators and crew.”

Saint Maud shoots for five weeks in North London and Scarborough and is funded by BFI and Film 4.

It is produced by Oliver Kassman and Andrea Cornwell.
