A reboot of the classic quiz show Blockbusters will air on Comedy Central with Dara O’Briain as host.
The revival will stay true to the original 80s and 90s format of the show, which aired on ITV, and sees students attempting to cross a hexagonal board for a chance to win an ‘experiential prize.’
Students and sixth formers will answer trivia questions correlating to a certain letter and be able to move forward onto the iconic Gold Run bonus round.
The first two series are set to be recorded early next year and will include two celebrity specials.
“I’m delighted to take over this classic quiz-show,” commented Dara O’Briain.
“However, I will not be laughing at contestants saying, ‘I’d like a P please Dara’, just as I haven’t laughed at the planet ‘Uranus’ in 10 years of Stargazing live. See, I can do serious.”
Louise Holmes, General Manager at Comedy Central UK added: “Dara O’Briain is the perfect quizmaster for the comedy reboot of this nostalgic show. That famous Blockbusters theme tune will once again be hummed in living rooms up and down the country very soon!”
The revival marks Comedy Central UK’s move towards diversifying British comedy and pushing for an increase of non-scripted comedy.
Already in pre-production, Blockbusters will hit screens in 2019.
