Channel 4 will reconstruct the Rebekah Vardy vs Coleen Rooney court case for a new drama-documentary.

Across two parts, the drama will use the real court transcripts to recreate the defamation case that gripped the nation in 2022.

Dubbed #WagathaChristie when it first unfolded on social media in 2019, the case was not allowed to be televised when it reached the high court this year, so Channel 4 will bring to viewers the many memorable moments for the first time.

Actors will play the parts of the protagonists, including Rebekah Vardy, Coleen Rooney, Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy. As well as scenes from the courtroom, there will be analysis from the media and social media.

Oonagh Kearney, who is directing the series, said: “this trial utterly captivated the public with its daily feed of entertaining exchanges and jaw-dropping reveals. But behind this, is a story of two women under constant public scrutiny, fighting for their reputations.

“It's a privilege to work with Channel 4, writer Chris Atkins and the fantastic Chalkboard [TV, the producers] team to peel back the layers of this story and reveal the beating hearts within.”
