Channel 4 has commissioned a new six-part series from Jack Thorne, which presents the RTS Award-winning writer’s first ever love story.

Falling will tell the story of two deeply religious characters, Anna and David. A devoted nun who has spent most of her adult life in a convent, Anna never expected to fall in love. And neither did David, a catholic priest committed to his work in the church and his Bristol community.

But when they do, both experience a crisis of faith as they try to reconcile their love with their relationship with God.

Ollie Madden, who commissioned the series as Director of Film4 and Channel 4 Drama, says: “Falling is a beautifully observed, achingly romantic drama about two people who can’t deny the feelings they have for one another, and yet battle with the crisis of faith their relationship triggers.

“Jack Thorne’s scripts are not only profoundly moving, but quietly subversive, witty, and revelatory in their examination of religion in contemporary society.”

The Forge Entertainment are producing the series, while Peter Hoar, who directed It’s A Sin, will direct all six parts.
