Happy Valley’s Con O’Neill and The Great’s Gwilym Lee are among the new recruits for SAS Rogue Heroes series two.
Written, created and produced by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight, SAS Rogue Heroes is the “mostly true” account of the unbelievable origins of the SAS, in the midst of the Second World War.
Series one saw David Stirling, played by Connor Swindells (Sex Education), seeking out the best and most reckless soldiers to push back the Nazis in a series of raids in North Africa.
The season finale saw Stirling meet with Winston Churchill (Jason Watkins), who told him that Malta must be saved at all costs. Unfortunately, Stirling’s last mission saw him captured by the enemy, with Paddy Mayne (Jack O’Connell) taking the helm of the SAS operation.
Series two will be a direct continuation of the events of series one and will see the newly in charge Paddy turn his attention from North Africa to mainland Europe.
Also returning will be Dominic West (The Crown), Sofia Boutella (Modern Love), Theo Barklem-Biggs (Sliced), Corin Silva (Boiling Point), Jacob Ifan (Bang), Jacob McCarthy (A.P. Bio), Stuart Campbell (Wake), and Bobby Schofield (The Suspect).
Gwilym Lee will take the role of Bill Stirling, David Stirling’s Brother and founder of the 2SAS regiment. O’Neill will play British Commander General Montgomery.
Also enlisted for series two are Mark Rowley (The Last Kingdom), Jack Barton (Heartstopper), Paolo De Vita (Anonymous), Anna Manuelli (Pezzi unici), Edward Bennett (Industry) and newcomer Matteo Franco.
Steven Knight says: “It’s so good to be back in the wild world of the SAS so soon. The second chapter is even more incredible than the first and we hope to do justice to the brave men and women whose story we are telling.
SAS Rogue Heroes will air on BBC One and iPlayer with no release date confirmed at present. Series one is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.
