The BBC has released first-look images of the Walking With Dinosaurs revival.
Each of the six episodes will tell the story of one specific dinosaur as its fossil remains are uncovered in the present day. Just like the original 1999 series, the new show will combine the cutting edge of both palaeontology and visual effects to tell the story of Earth’s mightiest animals.
The fastest dinosaur on the show will be the Albertosaurus, a relative of the T-Rex capable of running at up to 30 miles per hour. To reflect the latest fossil evidence from related species, the Albertosaurus will be depicted with fur-like feathers. Named for Alberta, Canada, where the species’s first remains were found, scientists believe they hunted in packs.
Then, there’s the Pachyrhinosaurus, a herbivore related to the Triceratops. Their ‘boss’, or keratin covered bone, went over the nose and was used by males to fight each other. So the next time you fight with your boss, don’t worry: you’re just channelling the spirit of dinosaurs.
The show will also feature Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai, which has a ‘unicorn’-style horn in the centre of its head. Herds with as many as 40,000 Pachyrhinosaurs may have migrated over hundreds of miles to find food and nesting grounds.
The latest series of Walking With Dinosaurs will air on BBC One and be available on iPlayer later in 2025.
