BBC One has revealed first look images and the first teaser trailer for fantasy drama series His Dark Materials.

Based on the fantasy novels by Phillip Pullman, the second series of His Dark Materials introduces viewers to the magical city of Cittàgazze.

Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) has opened a path into a brand-new world and Lyra (Dafne Keen) decides to join him, desperate for a distraction from the overwhelming grief over the death of her best friend.

Once Lyra starts exploring this new abandoned city, she meets Will (Amir Wilson), a boy running from his troubled past and separated from his father.

Lyra and Will discover that their destinies are intertwined and dependent on reuniting Will with his father, but a war is on the horizon and the pair will find their path blocked at every turn.

At the same time, Mrs Coulter (Ruth Wilson) has not given up on the hunt for Lyra and will do anything necessary to bring her home.

Series two sees new cast members join, Andrew Scott plays John Parry, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge voicing his daemon, Jade Anouka plays Ruta Skadi, Terence Stamp plays Giacomo Paradisi, and Simon Kirby plays Dr Mary Malone.

Series two of His Dark Materials will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
