Bella Mackie’s 2021 hit novel How to Kill Your Family is getting an adaption for Netflix, and Anya Taylor-Joy will star as potential murderess Grace Bernard.
If you are looking for a definitive guide on murder, you’ll have to go to a much darker streaming site than Netflix – How to Kill Your Family is the fictional account of the offspring of a billionaire.
Grace (Taylor-Joy) turns to her estranged father upon the death of her mother. Unfortunately for her, she is the product of an affair her ‘father’ claims not to remember. Fortunately for her, he has a gigantic fortune behind him, and if she can rid herself of the extended family, it will all be hers. As she gets more and more creative with her plots and plans, she gets further and further away from what would actually help her grieve.
Bella Mackie’s novel will be adapted by Extraordinary screenwriter Emma Moran. Moran says: “striking that balance between camp fun and brutal violence that Bella hits so perfectly in the book is a challenge I’m so looking forward to. I’ve never had more fun on a project with such a high body count.”
Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) says: “As soon as I turned the last page, I knew I had to be a part of bringing this story to life.
“After some (light) stalking of the inimitable Bella Mackie, I could not be more thrilled to be collaborating with the team that is executive producers Sally Woodward Gentle, Lizzie Rusbridger, and Emma. I am looking forward to getting our hands even dirtier.”
How to Kill Your Family will air on Netflix, with no release date currently set.
