RTS Cymru Wales is delighted to announce the return of its annual awards, following a break in 2021.
As well as celebrating the very best work by students, RTS Cymru Wales is expanding its industry awards and also allowing programme makers to submit nominations for 2020 and 2021 to celebrate Welsh talent’s hard work during television’s most challenging period.
RTS Cymru Wales is also pleased to announce that an in-person event will take place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff on the evening of 8th April 2022. We are very much looking forward to bringing together our members, the Welsh TV industry and the students who will be the content makers of the future for a celebratory event. Details of that event and how to purchase tickets will be announced in the coming months.
Student Awards will be for the following categories with separate awards for undergraduates and graduates:
- News and Sport
Full details of the criteria can be found here with the deadline of 8 November 2021
For Industry Awards, programme makers can submit twice – once for programmes first broadcast in 2020 and separately for programmes first broadcast in 2021. The categories are:
- News / Current Affairs
- This is an award for a team member
In addition, there are two new categories:
- Made in Lockdown
- For programmes made in 2020 under Lockdown circumstances
- Short-form Digital Content
- Content of any genre commissioned for, and premiered on, an online or social platform
The opening and closing date for all entries is Monday 18th October 2021 to Monday 31st January 2022.
Full details can be found here.
Edward Russell, Chair of RTS Cymru Wales said:
"It is important to include awards for our ‘missing’ year, so that we can reflect content produced during the industry’s most challenging period to date.
2020 demonstrated the importance of television, whether for news, education or entertainment and we are keen to shine a spotlight on programme makers.
We’re also incredibly excited to be able to see you in person next year for what promises to be a fantastic evening in a wonderful venue, along with the chance for industry and students to celebrate together"
