With three categories - Me and my World, Uplifting, or Coronavirus - the competition seeks to find interesting and authentic stories that haven’t been told before. The competition is open now, taking submissions online as text, video or audio.

Winners of the competition will be invited to prepare their story for broadcast on the BBC on either TV, radio, or social media platforms, with the opportunity to work with BBC journalists and producers.

The competition will see the strongest original stories being broadcast on the likes of BBC Breakfast, Newsbeat, The One Show and Newsround. Renowned reporters such as Tina Daheley, Huw Edwards and Ashley John-Baptiste have backed the competition.

The Radio 1 presenter Katie Thistle spoke of her excitement to judge this year’s competition: “I was a budding journalist myself in my teens and would have loved an opportunity like this.

“I am passionate about young people’s voices being heard and with life being so different for them over the past few months I’m interested to hear what they have to say and what issues matter to them most”.
