From the House of Black and White to Hardhome, Deborah Riley is the award winning Production Designer behind HBO’s “Game of Thrones” visual world. Just as the show’s characters and plots reflect a range of world mythologies and legendary archetypes, so too does the look of Game of Thrones, for which Riley draws on a mix of historical periods, styles, and cultural traditions.
Having won three Emmy awards for her work on Northern Ireland’s biggest television production, Deborah first joined the show in 2013 on Season 4. She oversees the entire art department which includes everything from Art Directors who embellish the fictional world of Westeros to greenspeople who landscape the realm, to the props and construction teams across not only Northern Ireland but various international locations including Croatia, Spain, and Iceland, to name a few.
At this event Deborah will discuss the challenges and accomplishments of her design work on Game of Thrones, and how she created the visual world of television’s biggest television drama which changed television drama forever. The discussion will be followed by short Q & A hosted by Hugh Odling-Smee (Film Hub NI) with opportunity for audience questions.
