Jonathan Edwards is to host Eurosport’s live UK coverage of the opening Grand Tour of the season, the 100th Giro d’Italia, and the 103rd edition of the prestigious Tour de France.
Edwards has worked as both a presenter and analyst at the past four Olympic Games. He joins the cycling presenting team after being appointed Eurosport's lead presenter for flagship sports programming.
“Cycling is a huge passion of mine, both as a fan and a committed rider whenever I get the opportunity, so I’m incredibly excited to join Eurosport’s cycling team for the first two prestigious Grand Tours of the season. It’s another exciting chapter in my journey with the Eurosport team and the first stage in Sardinia can’t come too soon,” said Edwards.
Edwards will be joined in Italy by some of the biggest names in cycling, including 21-time Grand Tour stage winner Sean Kelly, former British road race champions Brian Smith, Rob Hayles and Matt Stephens, and reporters Ashley House and Laura Meseguer, for insight and analysis.
2017 marks the Eurosport's biggest ever year for cycling, with over 2,300 hours of coverage, including the stages of all three Grand Tours; the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España.
For the Giro d’Italia, Eurosport will broadcast over 100 hours of live coverage exclusively on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport Player, and Quest will broadcast an hour-long highlights show of every stage presented by Edwards at 10pm. The tour will see double Olympic champion Geraint Thomas lead Team Sky in a bid to become the first British rider to win the Italian race.
“Jonathan is an exceptional broadcasting talent and through his love and knowledge of cycling is an excellent addition to Eurosport’s formidable presentation line-up and enhanced on-site coverage," said Simon Downing, SVP, Head of Eurosport and Quest, UK and Ireland.
"We can’t wait for the action to get started and are excited to bring every minute from the first Grand Tour of the season exclusively live to Eurosport fans and highlights to free to air audiences on Quest."
The 100th Giro d’Italia will be held from 5th to 28th May.
