This week Channel 4 introduces a week of programming dedicated to fake news, starting with The Fake News Show. Two brand new drama series The Moorside and Roots arrive to the BBC, and Channel 5 sees celebrities take on barging down the country's canals in Celebrity Carry On Barging.
Monday: The Fake News Show
Channel 4, 8pm
Stephen Mangan kicks off Channel 4’s Fake News Week as host of a comedy panel show, with guests Richard Osman, Katherine Ryan, Jon Richardson and Richard Ayoade.
The show will explore what is fact in the current post-truth world and will dissect outrageous headlines, alternative facts, altered photographs and viral clips.
Tuesday: The Moorside
BBC One, 9pm
The two-part drama follows the real-life events surrounding the disappearance of nine year old Shannon Matthews, which garnered immense media attention in 2008 when suspicions were raised surrounding family involvement in the kidnapping.
Sheridan Smith stars as Julie Bushby, a neighbour of Karen Matthews and who led the community to help find Shannon.
Wednesday: Roots
BBC Four, 9pm
Malachi Kirby stars as Kunta Kinte in the new adaptation of Alex Haley’s influential book, following the life of a young African slave sold in America and the story of his descendants.
The remake of the 1977 series chronicles Kinte’s journey after he is kidnapped and sold into slavery and an attempted rebellion aboard a ship of slaves from England to America.
Thursday: Release the Hounds: Famous and Freaked
ITV2, 9pm
The horror game show is back to push terrified celebrity contestants to their limits for a brand new series.
TOWIE’s Chloe Sims, Pete Wicks and Bobby Cole Norris will be faced with a host of terrifying challenges, including an army of clowns, demented bin men and evil toys.
Friday: Celebrity Carry On Barging
Channel 5, 8pm
Debbie McGee, Nigel Havers, Lorraine Chase and Simon Callow will board two long narrow boats and experience life on a barge for a week.
The teams will set off from Bath and travelling across the country.
Saturday: Terry Pratchett: Back in Black
BBC Two, 9pm
Paul Kaye stars in the dramatized documentary that tells the life story of the fantasy author Terry Pratchett.
The story starts at Pratchett's troubled schooldays and follows through to his struggle for respect among literary critics, his eventual success and his decline into ill health.
Sunday: Live Six Nations Rugby: France v Scotland
BBC One, 2.15pm
Gabby Logan presents coverage from the Stade de France in Paris where France and Scotland will battle it out in the second round of fixtures.
There will be commentary from Andrew Cotter, Chris Paterson and Ali Williams, and analysis by Mike Blair, Andy Nicol and Thomas Castaignede.
