Channel 4 has announced the celebrity contestants for the much-anticipated return of The Crystal Maze
The celebrated adventure game show has been absent from television screens for 21 years and is returning in October for a one-off celebrity special.
The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant will replace Richard O'Brien in hosting the show, and will guide the team of contestants through the Aztec, Medieval, Futuristic and Industrial zones before sending them into the show’s iconic Crystal Dome.
Footballer Rio Ferdinand and acclaimed actress Michelle Keegan will be joining the celebrity team, along with Paralympian Jonnie Peacock, Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox, and comedian Josh Widdicome.
The TV special forms part of Channel 4’s annual Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) campaign, where stars such as Noel Gallagher, Nicole Scherzinger, Pharrell Williams, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Britney Spears and many others have been involved in an evening of live television – airing this year on Friday 21st October.
The Crystal Maze has a huge public following and a live experience was earlier launched this year by Little Lion Entertainment after a successful crowd funding campaign that raised almost one million pounds from members of the public.
