Sir David Attenborough has chosen four of his own 'passion projects' to be aired over one week during his 90th birthday celebrations.
The veteran broadcaster personally selected four of his favourite shows, over a lifetime of filmmaking, to be shown on BBC1, BBC2, and BBC4 around his birthday on 7th May. These include a feature-length version of his 1954 series Zoo Quest, which will be aired in colour for the very first time the Radio Times revealed.
“I was astonished when someone said we’ve got nearly all the film of the first three expeditions you did in colour," said Attenborough. "I said it’s impossible, we shot in black and white.”
Other shows chosen by Attenborough are A Blank on the Map (1971) filmed on location in New Guinea, and Lost Worlds, Vanished Lives (1989) which visits famous fossil sites around the globe. He also chose The Lost Gods of Easter Island (2000) and Darwin's Tree of Life (2009)
Two new shows have been commissioned alongside the back catalogue. Attenborough at 90 will be a one-to-one interview with Kirsty Young in front of a studio audience and Life That Glows will take an inside look at the life of glow worms using state of the art light-sensitive camera equipment.
