He’ll also leave the shore at Blyth to join the crew of a 100-year-old tall ship.

Once in office, however, he was met with the worst economic collapse in living memory, minimal cooperation from his Republican rivals and the rise of the anti-big-government Tea Party movement.

This four-part series charts the President’s successes and failures, hearing from those closest to Obama, and his chief adversaries.

Brendan O’Carroll: My Family at War

Creator of Mrs Brown’s Boys Brendan O’Carroll tells the story of the Irish Easter Rising, which took place 100 years ago in the centre of Dublin.

1600 Irish rebels took over the city centre, holding out against the forces of the British Empire for six days before they were overwhelmed by shelling.

Three of those rebels were O’Carroll’s uncles. The actor explores their story, and that of their fellow fighters, speaking to historians and other descendants of the men and women who fought for and against and independent Ireland.

Speed with Guy Martin: F1 Special

Ahead of the launch of Channel 4’s Formula 1 coverage, motorbike racer and mechanic Guy Martin goes head-to-head with racing legend David Coulthard.

With Coulthard in a Red Bull RB8 Formula 1 car, assisted by an 11-man crew, and Martin on his Tyco BMW superbike and team of one, the pair will conduct a series of races at Silverstone to compare their different sports.

They will also compete in physical and mental challenges to explore the science behind driving these incredible racing machines.

Gary Lineker and Claudia Winkleman present an evening of sport and entertainment live from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

Familiar faces from across the BBC will be on hand to raise money to hep those in the world’s poorest communities.

Luther star Idris Elba will be swapping crime for comedy as he is joined by Lenny Henry, Rio Ferdinand, David Haye, Denise Lewis, Cecilia Noble, Louis Smith, Ruth Wilson and Ian Wright to uncover a case of hilarity, while Steve Redgrave and Freddie Flintoff go head-to-head for Clash of the Titans.

Heston’s Dinner in Space

Before he set off for the International Space Station, British astronaut Tim Peake set chef Heston Blumenthal the challenge of creating dishes to take with him that would remind him of home.

What followed was a two-year research and development project, as Blumenthal experimented how to make a bacon sandwich in space.

Working with the UK Space Agency, the European Space Agency and Nasa, the chef must work to create tasty dishes that meet Nasa’s strict food regulations and that can be consumed at Zero G.
