David Zohan, a student at Southampton Solent University, is making a film about a former military tank commander. 

The short film is inspired by personal training facility CrossFit Connect who specialise in strengthening athletes and military personnel. 

Zohan told the RTS that the funding from the university's television station, Solent TV, has enabled him to go ahead with the project. 

He is one of 20 students to be awarded a Television Production Bursary by the RTS to help with his studies.

The first year said: "When I applied for university my decision to go depended on getting the bursary, because at the time I wasn’t sure whether I was going to be able to afford it.”

He added that he plans on putting the money towards buying a new lens for his Sony camera to use for future films. 

Documentary filmmaker Morgan Matthews praised Zohan on a short trailer for his piece after a session at the RTS student masterclasses. 

Fellow bursary student Florence Watson used the money she was awarded towards a film called Power to the Mini Beasts, which won a BFI Award.
