In Conversation with Philip Edgar-Jones, Director, Sky Arts
Earlier this year, Sky Arts merged Sky Arts 1 and 2 and relaunched as a ‘super channel’ accompanied by an on-demand website housing 1,000 hours of specialist programmes. Phil Edgar-Jones, its Controller, is on a mission to change people’s perceptions about what the arts can be.
In this exclusive session for RTS Bristol, Phil discusses his bold new strategy to create headline-grabbing, event led television. With strands such as Hot Ticket night featuring a current performance piece and a weekly schedule featuring factual entertainment, documentaries, drama and comedy, there are a range of slots to fill.
Phil will also talk about the Amplify initiative, a fund which encourages arts organisations and production companies to pitch collaboratively for up to £1 million annually. The first projects, announced recently, include a drama-doc about sexting, a new work at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and a ground-breaking theatrical piece. Phil is on the lookout to commission a project from the South West.
Phil will be joined by Siobhan Mulholland, Commissioner in Factual at Sky.
